Our Story
From Personal Pain to Community Power
"In West Charlotte, we don't just survive – we fight back. Against health disparities, against financial barriers, against every obstacle that tries to hold our community down."
The Spark
May 31, 2001 wasn't just another birthday in West Charlotte. It was the day I learned our community's hardest truth – how health disparities can snatch away our loved ones without warning. My father's enlarged heart. Later, my mother's strokes. These weren't just medical terms; they were wake-up calls echoing through our neighborhoods.
The Reality
Growing up in West Charlotte, I saw it everywhere – families fighting the same battles with heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. But I also saw something else: an unbreakable spirit. While I was also building my legacy as an elite USA Boxing team member, throwing punches in competitions. I never forgot the bigger fight back home.
These experiences – from the boxing ring to the college classroom – showed me that with the right training, support, and mindset, we can fight our way to victory. As a first-generation college graduate from East Carolina University, I learned that education and action could transform pain into purpose, and athletic discipline into community transformation.
The Movement
That's how Kika's House was born. We're not just another program – we're a movement. Using boxing as our weapon, financial education as our shield, and community power as our strength, we're fighting back against the health and wealth disparities that have held our people down for too long.
